Contributions and Wealthpoints Rules and Guidelines

[*Beta*]
A note from admin (2008-Apr-20):
Please make sure you understand this if you still want to register and contribute here:
  • The contribute system is in beta. It may have flaws and it may not meet your expectations.
  • The approval and award process may be slow since we need to check so many things (eg check for accuracy, decorate the thread, evaluate the thread, test the stuff and so on). Furthermore the bad server somehow further delays our job.
  • You will still be able to get to the top even if you are empty-handed. For example you may share market data or books which can be obtained elsewhere easily. But you need to upload yourself and follow our standards, or you may get no award. It's never easy but possible. For our standards, please read: All you need to know about our submission procedures (archiving, downloading & uploading etc.) - You See Wealth Trading Community
  • I decide to restrict the registration until I fixed some major problems about the contribution system, technical problems and server issues. Registration is still possible by typing a special registration code. You can find it if you read our rules and understand our standards.
  • If you want to talk to me, click on Contact Us.

A short version for busy people

OK someone complained it is too long, so here is the short version.

The concept is simple. Contribute something which will be appreciated by some members on the community. What you contribute is not important. It is the spirit of sharing and selflessness that we want to encourage (no leeching and selfishness <-- please wipe those two words off your brain!!).

In other words, try your very best to do what you can and share what you have, and you will be paid eventually. There is nothing to stop you getting anything here except you. In case if you still have difficulty or you don't know what to contribute/do, please don't be shy to ask for help. You probably don't realise we want to see you getting what you want more than yourself. So again, don't be shy to ask for help if you get lost.

Finally I hope you don't treat the requirement or the whole system as a burden. Try to think positively. Without your help our community will not grow. Your help is much appreciated. Help others and help yourself. Simply pick something you like to do and enjoy here. Thank you very much.

PS: Is it short enough?

FAQs

Q: How can I gain as much wealth as possible? [*updated in 2008-Mar-06*]
A: Quality is the key here. Follow our standards when sharing. Share quality stuff. Write quality articles or reviews, or simply do something which will impress the whole community. Wealth is really "unlimited" here. You probably get too much wealth if you stay longer, and you will need to ask me how I can spend unused wealth at that time.
By the way you can get 40000 wealth at maximum per one valid contribution (however half of it are reserved to exceptional/special contributions. For non-exceptional/special contributions, You will only reach 20000 wealth at maximum).

Q: How can I gain trading experiences fast?

A: OK, try to imagine how a RPG game works. The same concept applies too. Do as many good things as possible. Experience is gained automatically when you are making any valid contribution, and you will advance if you are doing enough good things.
By the way you will need at least 2-3 valid contributions to advance to the next trading level.

Update (May 20 2008): Trading Experience Points were abolished since Admin's death. We will just use Wealthpoints from now on and nothing more. Experience points were a source of constant confusion.

Q: How fast can one advance to the top level?

A: Quality is also the key here. Assuming you are doing a really good job, you will get to the topmost level after about 20-25 valid contributions. In terms of time, you may be able to get it in one day if you are crazy enough.
However if you only rush for quantity (poor quality), the effort/time required will increase (double or even triple at worst). That's why we say quality is the key to lightning fast advance.

Again, our Admin is dead. No need to fight for more Experience Points, just accumulate enough Wealthpoints and you can get what you want.

Q: How can I create quality share?
A: By two ways. First share things which are rare and valuable. Second follow our archive standards, provide information and make better thread presentation (eg infobox, release description, installation notes etc.).

Q: What if I have nothing valuable or rare to share? Does it mean I cannot get any good resources available here?
A: Absolutely not. Although people who can make valuable or excellent contributions will be promoted faster and rewarded more, but as long as you are willing to contribute, you will still be able to get what you want. It is only a matter of time.

Q: What if I don't or can't share anything for some reasons? Does it mean I cannot get any good resources available here?
A: Absolutely not. As a general rule, any contribution which will be appreciated by some members will be counted and rewarded accordingly! There are plenty of things you can do: help members, write helpful articles/tutorials, write reviews, share your experiences, report problems and issues, give suggestions and feedback, and so on.

Q: I have contributed a lot. But I am not getting what I deserve. What's wrong? Do you hate me?
A: Don't panic. There can be several reasons why it may happen. If you believe you are seriously underrated, open a ticket/thread in the support so we can take a look at it. Please understand that this service is only for members who are seriously underrated in some rare cases. It is not a service which get priority. Inappropriate requests may be ignored.

Q: I want to know more how your contribution system works. Would you tell me more?
Of course. I'm just worried no one wants to read it (too long!). For those who want to learn about how our complex system works, feel free to read on.

Contribution System - a long story!

We have a contribution system in place which governs the distribution of our resources on our site.
When you access to some of our threads, the threads may require you to satisfy some conditions before you are able to access to the hidden contents or files.
There are two major elements (conditions) in the contribution system:
  • Experiences Abolished since death of Admin(yosewe)
  • Wealth <--- This is king now
We will discuss each element one by one.

Experiences

What is it for?

Experience is a way to measure a member's contribution. The more experience a member has, it makes more contributions to our forum.
Sometimes certain experience level is required before you can access to the hidden contents or files.

How to gain experience?

You will gain experience points for every 1 valid contribution you made.
The definition of a valid contribution is very loose. A valid contribution is a contribution which is generally appreciated by our members. Your contribution is usually considered valid as long as you are willing to contribute (as opposed to flooding or posting meaninglessly).
Example of a valid contribution:
  • share one piece of non-free software, indicator, system, book, market data etc.
  • write a trading article
  • write a review

Example of an invalid contribution:
  • meaningless or short posts (eg "great", "Yes I agree")
  • thank-you reply
  • keep reposting rubbish blindly
If your contribution is exceptional, you may be awarded extra experience points.

Experiences and Trading Level

For each level you advance, more resources will be opened up for you.
The following table shows how fast one can advance to the next level.
Quality of Contribution No of contribution before advance Note
Excellent 2-3
Good 4-5
Normal 8-9
Bad / Very Bad *never* Don't cheat the system. We have zero tolerance on this!
Important: we have a mechanism/script to detect such bad/cheating activities automatically. If you are caught flooding or spamming by the system, all your wealth, together with experience level, will be lost. You will also lose your ability to gain anything (except manual rewards) until an admin lifts this restriction. It is hardly possible for you to fall into it if you do not intended to flood us or exploit the system. If you do believe you are misidentified by the system, please contact the admin to help. We will always restore your wealth if you are found to be innocent.

Why experience?
Why is "experience" necessary within the contribution system?
There are several reasons why it exists:
    • Prevention of hit-and-run show: Someone may try to contribute little quickly (or even flood us), getting what it wants and leaving for good. We hope it can stay longer so as to discover the beauty of the site, like our site and keep visiting us more often.
    • Awarding old members: It is to award old members who support our site. To thank old members who keep contributing on our site, they are awarded by enjoying more resources available on our site.
    • Treasure our accounts: It needs some time to gain enough experiences. They will value their accounts more and will tend not to misbehave or spoil around. Imagine your account will be lost if you try to insult your members or start to spam etc. Your effort will be wasted and you need to regain your experiences if you do.
    Protected tag of experience

Q: What are they? What are they for?
A: This tag is added if the poster requests it. We never add it if they don't want to. It's used to help them to protect the best/rarest stuff. Someone who wants to get this protected stuff are required to have the same "level" of stuff shared. For example, if this stuff is rated at 950 experience, someone must have a record of sharing another stuff rated at 950 experience level.

Q: Why protected tag?
A: This tag has been requested by members. We don't add them if a member doesn't want to. They request this because some top members are worried about the "craps for gold" incidents, that is a case when a member intentionally keeps the best/rarest stuff and share common stuff only. It's considered to be an exploit in their viewpoint although our Admin doesn't agree. Anyway they get very annoyed and this has caused them not to contribute anymore.

Wealth

What is it for?

Wealth is the exchange medium on our site. Wealth is controlled and maintained by the central system.
Wealth is a way to quantify your contribution. The higher quality your contribution is, you will be awarded more wealth. Imagine that you will be paid by the system if you work for us on our site.
Sometimes you need to pay the system certain wealth to access to the hidden contents or files.

How to gain wealth?

Wealth can be gained in many ways. Generally speaking you will gain wealth if you do anything good or helpful to the growth of the forum.
Example of gaining wealth:
  • Post something which will be appreciated by some of our members
  • Participate in forum activities
  • Participate in discussion
  • Promote our site (using our referral system)
  • Visit our site daily
  • Write an article or review, writing as much as possible
  • Share something to the community
  • Receive manual rewards when you make good contributions
Example of NOT gaining wealth (or even losing it):
  • Cheat wealth by exploiting the system (eg keep flooding in hope of cheating wealth without contribution)
  • Spam us
  • Copy others' replies as yours
Important: we have a mechanism/script to detect such bad/cheating activities automatically. If you are caught flooding or spamming by the system, all your wealth, together with experience level, will be lost. You will also lose your ability to gain anything (except manual rewards) until an admin lifts this restriction. It is hardly possible for you to fall into it if you do not intended to flood us or exploit the system. If you do believe you are misidentified by the system, please contact the admin to help. We will always restore your wealth if you are found to be innocent.

How to get wealth fast?

How can I get much wealth in a fast way?
The answer is to get as many manual rewards as possible. By making good contributions, the moderating team will reward you extra wealth depending on the quality of the contribution. The reward ranges from 100 - 40000 wealth which can help a lot when you need to gain plenty of wealth.
It is much better than posting too many low-quality posts in hope of getting much wealth.
In summary, we value quality more than quantity.

Why wealth?

Why is "wealth" necessary within the contribution system?
There are several reasons why it exists:
  • Continuous contribution: It provides the incentive for the existing members to keep contributing. You need to keep accumulating wealth to pay for more resources. This in turn help the overall growth of our community. If only experiences existed, most members will stop contributing once they reach certain experience levels.
  • Fairness to all members: We want to make it fairer to fresh members too. If old members could access to all resources contributed by all coming fresh members freely without doing anything in return, the fresh members will be unhappy. We want both old and new members to participate on the forum not merely new members.
  • You get what you pay: We hold the philosophy of "you get what you pay (contribute)". You are paid by contributing to the forum. You can use the wealth gained to get what you want. It is also a concept applied to the world (money) nowadays.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask our administrators.

Updated: 2008-04-26 We suspect Admin died May 7 2008, now we got new rules which are simpler and more straightforward.
