Philosphical Musings.
A brief descrition of my grouch :
Dear Reader,
It's very hard to live in this world of the short and succinct communication. The KISS principle & political correctness imperatives just stifle my soul. I fail to understand why a person cannot understand a brief but detailed and thoughtful report on the analysis of a market, stock, commodity, trading position and the various interdependent contingencies under which the report fails. This happens even when those contingencies could rip their hearts out should they occur. No second chances.
What can it mean? Why should a person always jump to the "Conclusion" part without reading the "Disclaimers" and "Contingency Plans". Is it done to give the "impression" of being busy and efficient? Or perhaps it's a way of showing rank.My theory is that there is a very deep seated "Appear In Control" Instinct in all of us that drives all our work in the shadow world of probabilities.
The moment someone lesser theorizes a better way to understand the situation, minds begin to rebel, instincts scream and guts react to steal the budding thought and twist it to make it their own. Perverted beyond belief and twisted out of all recognition, the thought is forced down our throats to make us agree to precisely the opposite of what our report laid out.
The Geek and his Albatross, the Non-Geek and his Label:
Sometimes I've seen this happen right in the middle of an "I told you so" situation. The way junior knowledge workers have always been treated especially when they are right, leads me to believe in the theory of being born "geek". There are some people like us who like a focused atmosphere, a longer attention span, a drive to understand deeper and better, a place where mastery of details and a picture of the overview is the standard of competence. Those are "The Geeks". The others have a varying hold on their attention spans, a need to appear in control & "eye on the ball" and a Darwinian backlash to decimate any other evolving thought and pattern adjacent or contrary to that of the Non-Geek.
My conversation with you:
I'd like to thank you from the very depths of my soul. You've read this far and I'd like to say something to you.
Please believe me, I've consistently tried my best to abide by the KISS principle, the PC imperative. I have nearly always found people unwilling to understand no mater what tone of voice, or approach is used. All they seem to want is
- a kind of magic handle on the situation,
- some alternatives among which to choose,
- a whisper in their ears at all the right places and if successful
a consistent ungratefulness at missing the last few pennies of the uptrend, the last few points not scored , those last few grades not conquered. The focus is always on the "Not Done".
Some Comments I've experienced:
Boy! what's left on the table after you've cleaned up could feed a whole family in the third world for a year.

Question# Chump! what if this happens and that is not covered but this still continues to run. Could I be right then? (entirely against your report ).

Answer# That is possible but not all that probable.

Retort# Righto, ha ha ha I guess then you aren't that smart after all.

I guess that covers all I've to say. I'd love comments and suggestions. I'd love if you flame this topic here. Just don't spam or use this topic as pump and dump. I have a long experience of taking criticism, sarcasm, or outright insult. You are welcome to do it here. Even if you just post a short reply, I'll appreciate your candor and your taking the time to reply. It's not easy doing that.
