Forum Rules and Guidelines
|
Dear all members,
You are welcome to suggest anything to improve the community.
Feel free to do so if you find anything not alright in the following.
Why rules & guidelines?
We believe most can use their common sense and will behave well on the forum, but guidelines and rules are necessary in order to improve the quality of the forum and making it enjoyable and interesting for all of our dear members. Also it sets the basics where all moderators and administrators can base on when they moderate members. This reduces the chance of abusing thier power.
For information about Wealthpoints, resource sharing rules and how much you can earn in terms of Wealthpoints for your contributions, please go here: New Wealthpoint Rules (June 3 2008)
We care our members; our rules are as friendly as possible
We hope our members can enjoy here, feeling free and non-restrictive. Although administrators have absolute power on the forum literally, we care and value our members. Our guidelines & rules are written in a friendly tone and we explain the reasons of some of our rules, so members will understand our roles & situations, and accept easily.
It would be great if you could spend some time to be familar with the following guidelines and rules:
Global Rules
Forum Philosophy- This is a free site. It is forbidden for anyone to make use of the stuff for profits.
Stuff here is always free and remains free.
- This is a sharing site. It is forbidden for anyone to engage in private exchange.
If you would like to share something, simply share it out. Otherwise keep it for yourself.
- We love friendly and healthy atmosphere.
Be nice to each other and respect each member. Flaming/insults/profanity will not be tolerated.
Be patient and help others if you can, even if their questions may sound like stupid. Anyone is a newbie once upon a time. There is no stupid question.
If you think this member is problematic, you may make some constructive comments (but please be polite!). If it does not listen, there is no need to argue with him further. You may always ask us to help.
If a member insults you, don't talk back or flame or revenge. The best way to do is to report this incident to us.
If a member keeps bugging you, do not start flaming (it is not a good idea!). Instead you should ask us to help.
- This is an anti-leeching site. That means we expect our members to give us something in return while they enjoy here. Forum will not grow without the inputs of our members. The more you contribute, the more you get. Don't be underestimated what you can do here. Anything you do may be much appreciated by the administrators, even if it looks negligble.
Registration
Username
The following usernames are not allowed: - Deliberately register a similar username of other members. The member who registered a similar username may be asked to change username. Someone who deliberately doing so may be warned or temporarily banned until fruther notice. As regards whoever can hold the name, it depends on the registration date and whether the former member is dormant. If the former member is dormant for a long time or does not post at all, it is okay for the latecomer to keep the name.
- Register a username which is associated with our website/community or moderators/adminstrators
- Use email address, website, URLs, instant messenger numbers etc.
- Any name which is abusive, obscene, offensive; confusing, misleading etc.
- Use common sense after all and you should pick the name without problem

Posting - General Rules- Please speak in English. The only language spoken/written on this forum is English unless otherwise specified
- Please do not type in FULL CAPS (eg HERE'S MY COMMENTS) because it looks like shouting and rude to other members
- Do not attempt to bypass the word censor. It is not allowed. Some words are censored because they are offensive or abusive or bad in nature for example.
- Sticky request: You may request a post to be stickied but please consider that:
• This thread has to be relevant and very important to that particular board, or most visitors would need to read this.
• Don't be upset if we turn down your request. It does not mean we don't value your thread or we think your thread sucks. Please understand that the room for stickies is not much. We can only hold a small number of stickies on the board or the board will become a sea of stickies.
Types of Resources Allowed
Please keep the type of resource within scope.
We only allow Financial Technical Analysis Resources. If you come and pretend to contribute a CAD or statistical software that has nothing related to finance, then we have the obligation to treat it as a free resource and put it in the Miscellaneous/Computing Section without any award or cost associated to it.
Contents/Links
Do not post anything that includes (updated: 2008-Mar-16): - Leave personal contacts or request for exchange etc. (This is not a private exchange site!)
- Hold the keygen and offer generating keys only. It is because the member may leave and the thread will be dead. If you eagerly wish to keep the keygen from the public for some reason (eg afraid of it being sold or exchanged mercilessly), send the keygen to the admin privately so we can answer the requests for you (and maintain the life of this thread).
- Offer to sell software or anything (This is not a selling site!)
- Pornography or adult contents
- Malware or malicious contents, eg:
• Flooders, harvesters/spam tools. spyware
• Virus making tools/tutorials, or anything that can do potential damage or malicious in nature
- Spams or advertisements or referral schemes or affiliates links or commercials etc.
- Offensive or disgusting contents
- Avoid Danasoft-style images (ie images which shows your personal info, looking as if it has violated your privacy). It scares some members or get on their nerves.
- Please understand that we may remove links to any trading stuff forum (ie whose scope is similar to ours). These links are not normally allowed.
- Religious or political discussions are okay. But be beware that this kind of topic may "attract fire"
Thread Title- Moderators or administrators respect your original title, but they may be required to edit the thread title to keep up with the standards set below. We will try to keep the changes to the minimal. You will be noticed when we change the title and we will state the reasons.
- Please be descriptive. Don't be worried if the title looks a bit long. We accept long titles (250 characters at max).
Wrong: "Help me with an error!"
Correct: "Help! I get a #14569 error when I access the table"
Wrong: "I have a trading question" / "select stop-loss"
Correct: "Trading Question: How to select a proper stop-loss point in a rapid market"
Wrong: "A good system to share"
Correct: "Winning Edge Trading System - a good system to share"
- Please use proper separator.
Wrong: Super+Momentum+System ; Super_Momentum_System ; Super.Momentum.System
Correct: Super Momentum System
It is highly discouraged because it affects indexing and proper search.
- Please use proper cases.
Wrong: SUPER MOMENTUM SYSTEM
Correct: Super Momentum System
- Avoid using abbreviations in titles.
Wrong: SM System
Correct: Super Momentum System
- Do not use excessive punctuation or any other weird signs to get attention of your post, eg:
====== <title> ======
<title> !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is because some members are frown upon this practice. Your thread also looks spammy and make our forum unprofessional.
- Any misspelt word or phrase may be edited by the moderator or admin. It is to do with proper indexing and facilitating search.

Discussion/Reply- Please stay on topic. It is impolite to hijack a member`s thread (ie asking/discussing off-topic issues & other members discuss yours while the original issue raised on the thread is ignored).
- *NEW* Don`t ask support questions or leave forum feedback or complaints in the thread. There is a Support Center for you to do this.
- Please do not keep making short replies in a short time. Make use of the edit button!
- Please do not quote long posts. You should trim and only quote the main part where you are replying.
- Please do not keep bumping old threads since it annoys members.
Sharing
===For posters/uploaders===- Try to avoid making duplicate topics/threads/sharings. It is a good idea to learn to search before posting. Get into habit now.

- It is okay to post old versions or the same version with different release types, since they have some uses:
- Old versions are cheaper to get. A member can request for cost deduction when a new version comes out and that one becomes old.
- New versions aren`t always meant to be better. They may have more bugs. Sometimes new version isn`t patched well.
- Some users want to use old versions for some reasons. For example, some members still want to use TradeStation 2000i instead of TradeStation 8.
- Different release types (eg cracks, patches) and from different warez groups may work differently and may have some collection values.
- Don`t put the download link in a text file or inside an archive. It wastes members` time to get the download link. Simply paste the download links directly in the post. Use [ Hide ] tag to protect the link when necessary.
- Post direct links (to the file) if at all possible. Weird links like referral or redirected links are not okay unless you have some special reasons to do so. It is because these weird links tend to be spammy or commercial (eg gain money be more referrers) in nature.
- Please make sure the link and the password (if any) is working before posting.
- We prefer you test the thing before upload, although it is okay even if you haven`t. Please specify whether you have tested it on the thread
- It is advised that you just share it out if you wish. You don`t need ask members whether they want it before you upload. It is due to the following reasons:
- Someone will need it eventually. Even if the current members (who viewed your thread) are not interested in your file, other members (who are not here at the moment) and any future member may want the file. Current members who viewed your thread may change their minds and want your file too in future.
- From the administrator`s point of view, it always adds values to the forum so administrators would always appreciate it.
- Some members who are paranoid may think you are fooling them. There were some cases in the past that a member promised to share but it didn`t.
- Don`t show off. It is pretty pointless to say you have such-and-such stuff but you are not going to share. This only irritates our members. If you are not willing to share, just keep it privately.
- When you upload screenshots or images of the software, you should upload screenshots which can show the interface of the software, how it works etc., rather than images which only show the logo or the package box since they usually convey nearly nothing about the software.
===For readers/downloaders===- Please be polite to the uploader. Remember that they share their stuff selflessly so don`t be too demanding. Please be considerate and care about their feeling.
- Please don`t request any member to post the hidden contents. Anyone should respect the contribution system. If you encounter problems or don`t know what you can do to get the hidden contents, please ask the admin directly and we will be more than happy to help you out.
- Posters spend their valuable time to add value to our website. We expect our readers to be responsible and do something in return. Your participation will encourage them to contribute more, so your effort (even if it looks small) counts too.
Please be a responsible reader. A responsible reader should try to do the following:- Report dead links / bad files if found. It`s a good idea to use the report function by pressing the Report button on the bottom right of each post. It is because it is easier for moderators/administrators to get attention and clear up the forum (by moving dead threads to landfills).
- Report whether it is working (eg is the patch working?). Don`t just report if it is not working. Report too if it is working. Post screenshots as proofs!
- Do mirrors (ie provide backups for the uploads, or provide alternative links to the original one)
- Give rating for good/excellent threads. You may change your rating if you rated wrong.
- Give feedback or reviews.
Requests
(Updated on 2008-Mar-26) - Please open a new thread in the appropriate request forum to make your request. Don`t hijack the thread and request as a reply in the thread.
Signatures / Avatars
We did say we would like our members to feel free and non-strictive here, and we believe most members know what they should do.
So we simply ask you to use your common sense (eg no oversizing, no ads, no nudity). Very simple, right?
Moderation / Administration
Although administrators have absolute power on the forum literally, we do care and value our members. - We don`t normally delete threads. We keep all threads as far as disk space is permitted. To maintain high transparency and avoid power abuse, we would only lock threads when that thread violates our rules in normal circumstances. We will explain our actions so members can judge themselves. We may hide some contents (soft delete some posts) for some kinds of violations (eg it is silly to allow ads to display even if we lock the thread). A member may request to see the contents if it suspects that a moderator is abusing its power or made wrong decisions. Ask the administrator.
- Moderators and administrators are NOT always right. It is okay if you disagree with the action/decision made by us. We encourage you raising your concern but please notice the following:
• Remember that moderators and administrators are also part of the whole community, so our philosophy about "respect members" still holds, so please be kind and don`t scold us. We are all volunteers after all.
• Please be polite and rational when you make your comments/suggestions.
- Your comments/suggestions should be based on the community viewpoint, not just your own interest only. Remember that the site is to serve all members over the world.
We welcome suggestions and feedback about anything which can improve our forums. It is okay even if you advise how we should moderate the boards. We won`t accused you of "back-seat moderators" or "mini-moderators", or warn/ban you like some sites do.
Moderators cannot do just anything they like. Moderators can get warned or banned too if they disregard the rules. Rules are above moderators, not vice versa. If you notice any moderator is misbehaving on the forum, please report it to the administrator by PM or at Private / Confidential Support forum (Only admin can read the threads here! Super moderators or mderators cannot!)
Warning system- Members who disobey the rules (especially those expressed in strong tones) may get warned. Each warning has a point attached which is the weighting of the warning based on the degree of violation.
- Some of the violation may deduct your points too (eg cheating).
- A warning (and the point attached to it) may be expired/removed if you do not violate the same kind of rules again after a specified period.
- If you collect a specific amount of (unexpired) warning points, you may get automatically banned. This kind of bans are usually temporarily. Please wait until your ban period is over. Don`t attempt to open another account simply because you are banned. This is regarded as "not regretful" and a more server punishment. We can identify you using some advanced methods.
- We are reluctant but we may be focused to ban some members permanently in the worst cases (eg the spammers). Your ban may be lifted if you show regrets and promise that you would not misbehave on the site anymore.
- If you believe the moderator`s warning is wrong, feel free to appeal by contacting the administrator. State your reasons why you should not be warned in this case and why the moderator is wrong. This appeal should be final in normal circumstances. Please accept the final decision. You should not talk back to the moderator without respect. Moderator is also one of the members and the philosophy of "respect member" still holds.
Finally...
If you are uncertain whether your action may violate our rules or guidelines, you can always ask the administrator for clarification on OUR FOURM. Alternatively, you can always explain the reasons of your action so we will not misunderstand you and know that you behave on good faith .
If you happen to find any mistake, please contact me via PM or post it on OUR FOURM.
Best regards
FriendlyTraders
