Hi all,
I just wanted to get a quick survey of what kind of software package people are using to create their models. I personally have tried using Neuroshell, Tradingsolutions, and Tradecision. Is there any software package that impressed you or one that you feel is not up to par?
My personal preference currently right now is for tradinginsolutions. It is a bit harder to learn the interface but once you do it seems like it becomes easier. The Neural networks which is what I use also seem to be very well implemented from a technical aspect. I do neural networks for a living and I am more impressed by their implementation than I am by neuroshell or tradecision.
Neuroshell seems very powerful given the enormous amount of addons avaliable but the interface is not quite as pleasant and also there aren't that many diagnostics to check whether your models are actually reliable. Maybe I have not played around with it as much. Also, It is not very transparent how the Neural nets themselves are created or whether they include a cross-validation and testing set which is very important for assessing model quality for future predictions.
tradecision was the only software package I paid for but I don't use it at all anymore. I liked the Neural network implementation but again, no transparency in the NN architectures. In addition, I found it to be much more buggy than the other two software.I had to call support many times and they still couldn't solve my problem cause they were inherent in the design of the software. I would get crashes all the time.
Anyways, wanted to share my experience with these 3 common platforms. I tend to favor highly analytical models with robust backtesting. Anyone else have any comments on these or other packages?
